Val Surf

I bought my first snowboard boots from them. They were very accommodating in helping me pick out perfect boots for me! I’ll definitely come back. This time to purchase my board and bindings. Highly recommend this shop! Update1/7/2023: went there to have my newly bought used snow board waxed and sharpened. Had the bindings checked as well, if they were mounted right for me. Kyle was amazing! He was really accommodating and answered all the questions I had.

I've gotten great snowboard boots (and other items) from Val Surf for my girlfriend and myself over the years! They explain to me what I need, and always help to find the best products for us. I also rent snowboards here frequently, and they are easy to deal with and rather inexpensive to rent from. Such great people to do business with! Val Surf on Whitsett is the best 👍

I really try to support local shops. I've watched Amazon stomp out so many brick and mortar retailers, I just don't think it's right. Val Surf- I tried to support you. I recently needed to pick up a new pair of swim fins. Instead of buying them online, I drove all the way across town to Val Surf. I tried on a pair, and as best as I could tell while wearing them dry, I had the right size. Got them home, and immediately upon trying them in my pool could tell they were too big when I had them on wet. No biggie- I'll just head back to Val Surf and swap them out for a size smaller! Right? Wrong. Val Surf's store policy is no refunds or exchanges once they've gotten wet. On Rubber swim fins. I called them to explain my situation, but they wouldn't budge. I would understand a no return policy- they don't want to become a "Free gear rental" shop. But refusing a simple exchange? The only reason I didn't buy these fins online, and had them shipped to my front door, was that I value the customer service of a good local shop. Well, Val Surf is not that shop. What a waste of my time and money. I use this gear for underwater work in the film industry. I'll never shop here again, and I'll be giving the heads up to my co workers to avoid this place as well.

The fact that they still do ski rentals is definitely a plus. The hoops they make you jump through to rent suck. I have multiple reservations throughout this ski season. When I called to add another weekend to what I already have reserved, they told me that can only be done in person and only if I make an appointment online beforehand. They are about half an hour or so away from where I live, so it will take 90 minutes or so just to see if they have availability for the weekend that I want to add. They would not connect me to the rental desk to find out. An online appointment and a trip out there is apparently the only way I can even see if a reservation for an additional weekend is available to book. Ridiculous? I think so. However, another plus is that whenever I've gone in, the people that work there were very pleasant and helpful.

Love Val Surf, been coming for decks and surf stuff for a while now. Only complaint is a certain employee and his attitude and vibe. The main guy who works the decks is one of the nicest, most honest guys I've met. But the one time he was replaced by this other dude, his vibe and demeaner just left a bad taste in my mouth. I feel like if your working a customer service job, even if you don't wanna be there, just give some positivity and sense you wanna be there. Everything else, would 100% recommend coming. It's nice being able to talk to the deck salesperson and they're 100% honest about the products and decks.
